Laws are for protection. They are imposed upon us to hedge us in from doing too much evil. In addition, children are held under “rules” in order to protect them until they grow up. The Old Testament Law works the same way. It was put into effect to lead us to Christ. Now that we are “grown up” we are not under the custodianship of the Law any longer. In Christ Jesus the believer is brought into full adulthood with the help of the Holy Spirit. Now, the Christian enjoys the privileges of full sonship in God’s household.
