Galatians 5:16-26
The Gospel of Jesus Christ has set the believer free – free from the Law; free from the control and power of sin; free from death. However, the war of freedom will now be activated in the Christian’s life. Sin will wage battle against the indwelling Holy Spirit using the believer’s own sinful nature (i.e., the flesh). The child of God’s duty, now, is to yield to the Holy Spirit’s desires daily and so defeat the sinful nature more and more. All of this is counted as the process of sanctification and is direct evidence that salvation and justification has indeed taken effect in a person’s life.
